The Background

Research Garage Group, a well-established automotive retailer with over six decades of heritage in the Midlands, is renowned for delivering exceptional customer service across its Fiat, Alfa Romeo, Abarth, Jeep, and Peugeot showrooms in Nuneaton and Hinckley.

As part of their commitment to operational excellence and environmental responsibility, Research Garage partnered with Perfect Sense Energy to install three solar photovoltaic systems across two of its sites.

These installations demonstrate the Group’s forward-thinking approach to reducing energy costs and carbon emissions, whilst also highlighting how renewable technology can be seamlessly integrated into commercial estates, helping to future-proof energy supply and align with broader sustainability goals.

The Solution

At the Hinckley site, we installed a 67.24 kWp solar PV system. On average, the system has generated around 61,000 kWh per year since installation.

At the Nuneaton site, Perfect Sense Energy installed two systems of 63.96 kWp and 76.26 kWp, delivering strong performance from the outset.

The Results & Feedback

The Hinckley site translated into first-year savings of over £14,000, with a projected return on investment in excess of 23% and a payback period of just three years. The system provides electricity at a highly competitive fixed rate of 4.41p/kWh, giving long-term price certainty.

The two Nuneaton systems have provided a combined 130,000 kWh per year, significantly reducing the site’s reliance on grid-supplied energy during peak trading hours. This level of generation equates to year 1 savings of over £39,000, with an ROI exceeding 28% and a projected payback period of just between 3-4 years. By producing power on site, the system provides long-term energy security and protection against rising electricity costs.
