The Background

Kadant are a global manufacturing parts supplier. Perfect Sense Energy completed an installation in their manufacturing plant located in Bury. As a manufacturing plant, the lights were used 24 hours a day, 5 days a week meaning very high energy costs and a high maintenance factor due to their extensive use. They were previously using traditional fluorescent lighting but decided an LED lighting installation would greatly benefit the business.

The Solution

Perfect Sense Energy has performed 3 phases of LED upgrade so far at Kadant, with installations in the press shop, main workshop and exterior. The main workshop upgrade saw 400W High Bay lighting replaced with 120W LED units, achieving a 72% energy saving and 42% ROI in just over 2 years. The project also provides a vibrant workspace, a more productive workforce and reduced energy and maintenance costs for years to come.

The Results & Feedback

The new lighting greatly cut down on energy costs compared to the previous traditional lights. It also helped to provide a better working environment with increased lux levels and no need for difficult access maintenance work. The installed luminaires come with a 10-year warranty and have an expected lifespan in excess of 50,000 hours.
