The Background

Wilkinson Star are a leading UK importer and distributor of industrial welding and compressor equipment. Perfect Sense Energy was selected to complete a whole site LED Lighting installation at their site in Swinton, Manchester. The site previously had HID and fluorescent lights installed, which used significant amounts of energy and required frequent, expensive maintenance.

The Solution

Perfect Sense Energy designed a bespoke lighting scheme to retrofit the entire building. Lights were upgraded in the warehouse, under the mezzanine, externally and in corridors and offices around the whole building. 250w HID High Bay lights in the warehouse were replaced with 120w LED High Bays, using less than half the power whilst improving lux levels significantly. In total, the installation saw a lighting energy saving of 63% for the first year.

The Results & Feedback

The new lighting used significantly less energy than the old fittings, with a year 1 electricity saving of £10,085. The project has a payback period of just over 3 years, and they received a full Carbon Trust grant of £10,000 towards the installation due to our accreditation. The lux levels are greatly improved and the need for costly and time-consuming maintenance is eliminated, with the warehouse high bay LED lighting provided with a 10-year warranty.
